SHOULD INTER UNITED PLAY A SUMMER LEAGUE?

Through two different summer seasons, Inter United has struggled to get enough people to start a game. Last year the team ended up registering 24 players and even then had to start games with 9 or 10 players on the field. The situation eventually led to the team's withdrawal from competition with a few games still remaining. The fact that only players who went to the games were paying for refereeing seemed to be part of the problerm since it was thought then that someone who was not paying for a game might not care if he missed one. For this year players were required to pay in advance for the costs of the team but still the same situation is happening. We have used 21 different players this season but only nine showed up on time last Sunday.
The summer is a fun season and an opportunity for some good quality family time and making a commitment to consistently show up on Sundays for a soccer game, even for die hard soccer fans, is tough. In this terms maybe Inter United should reconsider competing in summer leagues and becoming a fall-winter team only. Is this how most of the team feels? Any suggestions about what other options we have?
Inter United has not yet won a Championship (we have been close) but that is not really the teams major goal. The main objective is to have fun playing but that goal becomes unreachable for the players who show up to play shorthanded on a hot summer day.
Discussion is open

I could see why people aren't motivated to show up when we find out game times just days before the game, the league comes up with the most unrealistic approach to getting everyone and ID, and all the b/s referring that goes on almost every game. I'm personally sick of this Aztec Circus league and wouldn't pay a penny to play in it ever again.
Anyway, I think we should find a league that is a better fit for our fine team and one that ideally plays week nights. I’ll do some research and come up with suggestions.

I have played for inter since before it was called inter. in my time here i have heard how the team is about friends and fun and hahahaha. At the same time i have heard how we need, better player, practices, strategies...etc. in other words how we want to win. this double standard has to end. if the team is only for friendships and fun, then drop the leagues and have friendly get togethers like our "practices" on tuesdays. they are fun, free and we all play. However If the team wants to improve and win something; we have to start by admiting we want to win.Inter whould play in a league with at least a game schedule and decent refs.
we also need to start practing for real, practicing as a team. maybe even practice a corner kick or two.
All soccer player have more fun when they win. you all know it if not can you remember the last time you had a great time and lost 6-0? or had a great summer season and the team record had more losses than goal?
I cant.
the team need to make up its mind if its for fun then fine ill play for fun. if however you want to play good soccer with the goal of winning a Championship game then lets do it.

we are all part of this team and we all need to say what we think.

Don't kid yourselfs, you all want to win and have a more fun when you do. however fears of getting benched or not having equal playing time have created a bipolar team.
Its time to make a choice, and stick to it. what ever the choice Ill play for the good ol' black and blue.

So inter choose......

Of course winning is better than loosing but having fun is not incompatible with both. In my opinion what takes the fun away is playing shorthanded because we don't even have a chance at the start of the game. Loosing a game 11 on 11 when the other team is simply better is not a problem. Our best regular season ever was the winter of 2004-2005 when we were second place and thought we would make the final but lost in the first round of the playoffs. I don't think anyone was disapointed because we all did our best (the team partied that night at Juan Jose's place and later had a great end of season celebration at Alvaro's).
This season in at least 2 of our losses plus our only tied game we have started (or finished because of red cards) the games shorthanded. Jorge might be right in terms that the league is the cause of the lack of motivation. Any other ideas?
At least from my point of view if the team is united and motivated and plays to its best I go home happy.

Inter United FRIENDS: I want to start this note by thanking everybody for your kind words of support after the unfortunate incident last Sunday, I sustained a hairline fracture of my leg and the other player had a severe leg fracture, I feel really bad for what happened specially considering that that was the second incident of leg fracture that I am involved in this season. I had serious doubts about what I will do next, My family and wife want me to quit the team to avoid injury or liability, after long consideration I have decided to stay with the inter United, I have gain a lot from this team, I had the opportunity to make new friends and meet new people ( the web page has the picture of over 57 players that I now call friends), I also had the opportunity to play the sport that I love despite the fact that I was never too gifted with talent and on top of that I am now old and slow I always try to play with heart and pride. With the leadership of Jose Luis as captain of the field, Gustavo going to meetings and keeping the web site coordinating the delivery of affordable uniforms from overseas, and I was able to contribute with the money upfront to help the players. I have lost hundreds of dollars every season when every thing is added up but I gain so much that I do not mind. William questions in the blog if we should aim at winning as the main goal for the team or fostering friendships. That question was answered back in December of 2003 when the team was born and is clearly displayed across the web page : ...." The team was created to make friends regardless of the scores". That does not mean that we do not like to win, however it is not the main goal of the team. Since the beginning we have combined a mix of player talents and age groups to remain competitive, we always have young super athletic stars who easily could play in division one or better with a group of more senior players that love the sport but are more fit for division 3 level, we then register the team in division 2 tournaments to keep it interesting. We encourage the young players to play in other more competitive teams to keep the young stallion blood going and have on Sundays a more sedated and relaxed experience playing with us. So far this formula has serve us well,we have disputed the final in every tournament that we have participated, this season we have lost only 3 games this season due to lack of number of players (the 3 times we started with 9 players only) rather than talent of the players. So friend lets not get discourage for the last loss, lets all contribute to the team according with our own capacities, lets show up early for the games and lets show up in mass on Tuesdays for a real team practice. Also lets get together one of this days and as a group lets plan strategy or just enjoy a cold one, Lets nurture our friendship.

Hey guys,
I'll try and think what I am writting here, even if is almost 3 AM:))
Well, the thing is that I see different comments here, but I am not the one to talk too much about it, because I didn't do too much this season. So, I think that the best players of the team and Alvaro and Gustavo should think about what we are going to do in the future with the team: INTER UNITED!
Yes, "United" is about frineds, and fun!
But, "Inter" means something if we think about ITALY, very good, organized TEAM and with a great strategy!
How about having both with our team...
Let's have fun and win the games that we work for, and not having hard time with these referees, and this league "Atzeca", which doesn't reprezent good people like us!
I also think that in the future we should change the league, cause I will never play in Atzeca!
Come on, we don't need fights, injuries, bad refs, not good schedules in time, moving from place to place... They just take the money from us, and don't give a shit for anything else>
We have a great team, and alot of fun, but when we work as a team, and the refs are ok, we have good results and fun!
I THINK THAT WE SHOULD PLAY IN MRSL OR MASL NEXT TIME!
JOHN KNOWS HOW IS, AND I PLAY THERE ALSO>>> GO INTER!!!!!!!
